Effective 1 August 2022, this relaxation comes as Malaysia’s healthcare system is now deemed to be “at a good and controlled level”, the Ministry of Health said.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that travellers entering Malaysia are no longer required to complete the features of the Traveller’s Card in the MySejahtera application, effective 1 August 2022 (Monday).

This relaxation comes as the condition of Malaysia’s healthcare system is now deemed to be “at a good and controlled level”, and to further facilitate entry procedures for travellers, the Ministry shared.

With this new relaxation of rules, “MOH will constantly intensify symptom monitoring activities among travelers at all International Entry Points (PMA) in Malaysia.”

If travellers are detected to have a fever through a thermal scanner on arrival at the PMA, or found to be unwell through self-testing, they will then be referred to the health department for a re-examination. Upon completing the health assessment, if they are suspected of having an infectious disease such as COVID-19, monkeypox, MERS-CoV, or others, they will be referred to a nearby health facility for further examination and treatment.

Ending off the statement, MOH advised travellers: “Accordingly, all travellers who have just arrived from abroad should practise self-monitoring of their health status, comply with the prescribed SOPs, and go to the nearest health facility for an examination if they are found to be unwell.”
